Innovation

Have you heard the statement, "You don't know what you don't know?" While it may sound like an obvious statement it is far from obvious.

Do you believe you can be successful?

No, seriously.  Do you really BELIEVE it?

There are a million ways that we consciously stop ourselves from ever even coming close to reaching our full potential.  We do this by creating perceived limitations in our minds to what's possible for us to achieve through our thoughts, intentions, and most of all, our BELIEFS.  It's a documented fact that what we believe - our belief system - is like an "on-off" switch to how we behave and perform.  What we believe completely shapes the way we live.  When we believe something is possible we find a way to make it happen and when we doubt something is possible we don't even try.  Let me share some of my thoughts on this.

I engage in several conversations a week, both personal and business, and the two most popular knee jerk beliefs are 1) I can't afford it,  and 2) I can't do that right now. These conversations are about things such as purchasing a healthy product or service that would improve their health, buying that much needed piece of equipment that will generate more revenue, making a decision that would positively impact their finances, or enrolling in a course or program that would benefit their business or profession which in turn would benefit their lives as a whole.

And yes, of course, there may be some circumstances that are truly getting in the way of being able to afford something or being able to make it happen now. This is where I become curious and question if these beliefs are based on truth or delusion; and what the underlying reasons and emotions are for these beliefs.

The way I see it, there are two ways in which you can structure your belief system, by having disabling beliefs or empowering beliefs.

1) Fear-Doubt-Insecurity-Lack-Scarcity-Control

OR

2)  Stability-Confidence-Determination-Values-Priorities-Vision-Goals-Faith-Commitment

So back to my conversations; when we get right down to it, for some, they can afford it, they simply choose not to make their health a priority; they can find a way to buy that equipment but they don't want to take the time to visit their bank and apply for a business loan because they may have to write a short business plan. For some, they can do it now, but that would involve planning, organizing, and commitment so they choose to put it off.

For others, their belief system is built on delusion and once they are aware of this, they choose to change their structure.  They simply didn't realize that they were coming from a disempowering place, they truly believed that they couldn't afford it and that they couldn't do it now. And they are relieved and empowered to know the truth-- that they can.

Finally, there are those who do have a strong and healthy belief system as in #2 above. They believe in the possibilities, they believe that their ideal life is waiting for them, and they will do what it takes to make it happen.

The truth is that you have to work for what you want, and once your limiting beliefs are cleared away, you find a way to make it happen and life does, in fact, get easier. When you shift your mindset so that it serves you, you can believe in yourself, in your capabilities, and in your efforts. Your new belief system will dictate your behavior, ultimately getting you to where you want to be.

I believe that success is something you MAKE HAPPEN.  And you can't make something happen if you don't believe you can do it.  Belief is one of the simplest and most complicated things we will ever face.  As a mentor, I know that the greatest gift I can give my clients is the belief that they can bring their dreams and aspirations to life.  Once they have that, it's simple to take it to the next step and make success happen.  And it's my duty and privilege to help them do that!

Your Action Plan For The Week:
  1. Take a good look at your belief system, what is it's structure?
  2. Do the work you need to do to change your limiting and disempowering beliefs.
  3. Write down your new and/or improved belief system.
  4. On a daily basis, behave in ways that are dictated by your empowering beliefs.
  5. Practice-Practice-Practice living in alignment with your supportive belief system.

"Compliance."

It's one of those words that usually elicits a physical response the moment you hear it. And most of the time that response is a sudden feeling of heaviness weighing you down.  Why is that?  Because compliance is a word that usually means that we have to do something we should be doing but probably, in most cases, aren't.

In fact, it's a lot like exercise.  We know we should be doing it.  We know we will feel better if we do it regularly.  We even know we are likely to live longer and have more productive, fulfilling and successful lives as a result.  But the fact of the matter is, exercising is one of those things we often make excuses for not doing until something tragic happens and we get the proverbial wake up call.

Our businesses are no different.  There are certain, specific actions that we MUST comply with in our businesses that will ensure we are fulfilling our obligation and responsibility as business owners and entrepreneurs.  This will allow us to be more productive, fulfilled and SUCCESSFUL over the life of our healthy careers.

You are an entrepreneur and a business owner and you call the shots. You are in charge of your own success and you like it that way.  You set your own hours, take vacation when you want to, make the rules for your business and choose who you will work with and how.  You are completely in charge of your business.

Or are you?

lots of gifts

I talked about S.M.A.R.T. goals in my October  6, 2011 newsletter, you can find it in the archives if you haven't read it or want to revisit it.

I wanted you to start thinking about your 2012 business plan in order to think about and set well planned, well thought out goals.

Did you do it?

Hooray for you if you did and you're going to love my new take on this concept.

If you didn't quite get there yet, no worries-it's never too late to get
S.M.A.R.T. about your business.

S.M.A.R.T. goals are known to be SPECIFIC, ATTAINABLE, MEASUREABLE, RELEVANT AND TIMELY and I could write five articles on each aspect since they are all so important.  But, I'd like to focus today on just one.

The "A."

Let's substitute "ACTION" for "Attainable."

Here's why.  I happen to think that "attainable" is a given in any situation because, truthfully, there isn't much in our lives that we can't attain if we put our greatest efforts toward it.  In fact, the "A" in S.M.A.R.T. goals is actually the weakest link for most people and the reason that most people DON'T achieve their goals at all.  Think about it. Most of us don't set goals that we think are impossible to achieve so that makes that attainable  "A" already a moot point.  In fact, many people set an easy "A"  and therefore remain in their comfort zone making it's "ok" if they don't attain it, as it was just a small goal in the first place.

Stay with me.

I talk to entrepreneurs all the time who have set specific goals that they have carefully measured and that they know  are relevant and timely to their businesses.  And yet, they come to me frustrated because they haven't reached them yet and can't figure out what they are doing wrong! Their goals are clearly good-maybe even great-- but they are missing the one vital thing that gives the rest of the S.M.A.R.T. equation its real power.

ACTION.

In my family we always encouraged one another when we set out to get something accomplished by saying:  "Get an A!"  This didn't just refer to getting an A in our studies, but also getting an A in our jobs, getting an A in giving a teleseminar,  running a fitness bootcamp, or even getting an A in our health examination with our doctor!  We all knew that we couldn't get that "A" without action and we were naturally held accountable by one another in a positive way as everyone from my parents down served as supportive cheerleaders with the EXPECTATION that we would be successful.

Without action and the natural accountability that goes with it, S.M.A.R.T. goals are not possible to achieve.  And without action, entrepreneurs and business owners are destined to fail.

As we move into the New Year, take a hard look at your own S.M.A.R.T.
goals and ask yourself if something is missing in that formula for your success.  Not quite sure?  Or maybe would you like to stop following the trial and error business model? That's what I'm here for!  Call me for a free business strategies discovery session and I'll show you how to guarantee that 2012 is the SMARTEST year your business has ever seen!

YOUR ACTION PLAN FOR THE WEEK:
  1. Choose a goal that will stretch you out of your comfort zone.
  2. Write out your SMART goals for this ONE particular goal.
  3. Create an "A"ction plan that will fully support this goal.
  4. Find Campos Coaching on Facebook or Angelina Campos on LinkedIn and share your SMART goal and action plan.

A common mistake entrepreneurs make with their business cards is that they don't use engaging words on them that lead to a conversation.
Often when I look at the business cards I've collected at a later date, I can't even figure out what the business was in the first place!  There is just a name and a contact number but nothing that peaks my interest in their business, and most often it's because I have no idea from looking at the card what their business is and nothing that was said to me when I received the card triggers my memory! This, sadly, causes me to file them straight into the trash and therefore my association with that business is over.
As a result, time and money is wasted on both sides.
Whether there are thousands of professionals that do what you do or you are in a very narrow niche, you need to be clear, succinct, and give some level of pertinent information about your business at all times. The bottom line is that you need to set yourself apart from your competitors.

How do you do this?
Some of the words I currently have on my business card are:
  • The Benefits of Coaching:  Get organized, implement systems, market effectively.
  • Build a full clientele by working smarter not harder!
Responses I get from this are:
  • "I need to get organized!"
  • "What kinds of systems?"
  • "I don't know how to market at all!"
  • "I want to work smarter and not harder, how do I do this?"
Putting these words on the back of my business cards has opened up countless conversations about the results that my clients achieve and how they achieved them; and ultimately about my business.
THIS is what your business card should be doing for you!

In my coaching programs we address concepts that go into all of these areas of marketing--even those things as seemingly minute as what needs to go on a business card.  You can create a good quality, credible business card by adding some of the most important things that people should know about you and your business while not overloading your card and making it an eyesore of ad space gone wrong!
If you do nothing else to prepare your business for the New Year, make SURE that the front side of your business card clearly states your name, contact info and website along with a quick statement about what you do.
Your cards can be even better by putting statements on the back of your card that list the benefits, results or even a call to action that reflects back on your business.
New businesses often think that printing a business card with an email address and a phone number is all that is necessary but this creates a poor impression. The risk of looking like an amateur business is not worth the small investment to create a business card that is credible. If you are a business or know of a business with cards like this, please contact or refer me so that I can provide important professional direction.

Your Action Plan For The Week:
  1. Identify some benefits your clients receive as a result of working with you.
  2. Identify some results your clients have gained as a result of working with you.
  3. Create a call to action that you can print on your business card such as "get this free gift by going to (input your web link here)."
If you need help with your marketing in this area, go to CamposCoaching.com and contact us, we will be happy to help you gain more clarity on your marketing so that you are not wasting your time, money, and efforts!
Cheering for your success!
